Serving Civilian Technicians of the Guard and Reserve

PRESIDENT SIGNS INTO LAW

NDAA 2001

As your Council President I am pleased to report that on 30 October 2000 President Clinton signed into law HR 4205 the "Floyd D. Spence National Defense Act for Fiscal Year 2001.   Contained in this law are the changes which were agreed to by the Congress which replaces NDAA 2000 language pertaining to Mandatory retirement for Non-Dual status technicians in both the Army and Air Reserve. As a result non-dual status technicians will not be mandatory retired until and unless they attain age 60 and are eligible for an unreduced annuity.

THIS CHANGE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE UNITED EFFORTS OF TECHNICIANS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. GREAT JOB!!!!

Despite our massive lobbying efforts to attain equity Congress failed during Conference to make changes to the Early retirement provision contained in this law for those technicians hire prior to Feb 96.  Ron and I have met with Congressional representatives and Congressman Abercrombie's office has assured us that he will be reintroducing an early retirement bill next year. Complete details relative to this and future actions are contained in an Article within the Dec 2000 AFGE Council newsletter posted to this web.
