Latest on Transition of Non-dual Status back to Permanent

Be Advised that while at the Partnership Council Meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday 14, Mar 01 the following information was furnished by USARC representatives:

The request for reinstatement back to permanent status of Non-dual status technicians has been given the go ahead by the Assistant Secretary and is still waiting final signature and approval from the Acting Secretary of Army. This is expected to be accomplished NLT Friday 16 Mar01.

In the event this is not accomplished USARC Representative Doug Gray in conjunction with CPAC will process actions for extension of appointments to temporary positions for ALL Non-dual status who transitioned to temp employee status 1April00-1May00 on Monday 19Mar01.

Obviously, today is Monday therefore the hopeful resolution date of Friday 16 Mar 01 has come and gone which means that both Doug and CPAC are currently processing actions for extensions.

We are pleased that USARC is ensuring that technicians are not additionally negatively affected, by extending their temporary appointment. Additionally, We, as are USARC representatives, are confident that this issue will be put to bed really soon now. Rest assured I will express my dissatisfaction with the untimeliness of implementation next week while in Washington, DC while speaking to representatives of Congress.

While this issue should soon be resolved there remains another Major issue relative to current non-dual status technicians that needs everyone's immediate involvement. This is the Prohibition of Voluntary movement for Non-dual status Techs.

As President of Council 164 I have recently completed preparing letters which I will begin mailing today to all of Congress relative to the prohibition of voluntary movement of Non-dual status technicians in the Army Reserves.

If we expect to obtain change to the unfair adverse situation ALL Technicians MUST now write to their elected officials and visit them where possible. The letters I prepared, which you may use as a guide will be posted to our website tomorrow. While the overall content of the letters prepared by me are the same, they differ towards the end of the letters where we state we request the following:

This part differs depending on who we have written to and whether that individual is a member of the Armed Services House or Senate Committee or not. Keep this in mind when you write to your own representatives.

While all are encourage to use these letters as a guide you must remember that in order to be effective you must write your own personal letter. I am requesting that you send me via fax at 617-363-2385 any responses you receive from your representative.

Additionally, please share this with all and encourage their involvement. Should you have any questions please advise. Remember, together and united, through letter writing and lobbying we were successful in changing the mandatory retirement law to age 60, We MUST all unite once again to bring change to this unfair situation.
